Research on how people really learn languages

We run ongoing studies with real learners to understand what helps and what holds people back. Explore the findings below, and watch this space for new studies.

Studies

We run our own studies on how people actually learn to speak a new language. Every report is built on real learner data, from the fears that make people freeze mid sentence to the small daily habits that build lasting fluency. We share what we find in full, including the parts that surprised us, so you can decide what is worth trying in your own practice. Our goal is simple: replace guesswork with evidence, and give both learners and teachers something concrete to act on rather than another list of generic tips. Each study explains who we asked, what we measured, and what the results mean for the way you study day to day, and it links straight to the underlying data so you can check the numbers yourself and draw your own conclusions. We care as much about the questions that did not pan out as the ones that did, because both tell you something useful about learning. New studies are added as we run them, so it is worth checking back as the collection grows.
